  11. WHAT IS PICSAVER ?
  12.  
  13.     PicSaver is a little utility that allows you to take snapshots
  14.   of windows, screens or only part of screens and store them on disk
  15.   as IFF-ILBM files which can then be used in almost any paint-program.

  18. HOW TO START PICSAVER
  19.  
  20.     From CLI      : Type 'PicSaver' and press RETURN.
  21.                     There is NO need to use 'RUN', 'RUNBACK', 'ARUN' etc.
  22.                     PicSaver is auto-detaching when run from CLI (It
  23.                     won't prevent you from closing the CLI-window)

  25.     From Workbench: Double-click on the 'PicSaver' icon.

  28. HOW TO END PICSAVER

  30.     To remove 'PicSaver' simply run it again as explained above.
  31.     A third way to remove 'PicSaver' will be explained below.

  34. HOW TO USE PICSAVER

  36.     When I from now on when I write press LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL, then I mean press
  37.   the left ALT-key AND the left SHIFT-key AND the CTRL-key and hold them dowm.
  38.     When I write LMB I mean the Left-Mouse-Button.

  40.     'PicSaver' will let you save images from screen i three ways:
  41.  
  42.     1. You can save the whole screen
  43.     2. You can save a window
  44.     3. You can cut a rectangle just as you do in e.g. Deluxe Paint.
  45.  
  46.     No matter which way you choose, 'PicSaver' will open a window
  47.   on the Workbench-screen in which you can specify the name of the 
  48.   file under which to save the picture.

  51. HOW TO SAVE AN ENTIRE SCREEN
  52.   
  53.   1. Activate the screen (e.g. by clicking the mouse in it).
  54.  
  55.   2. Press LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL-'s'
  56.      The window will now appear on the Workbench-screen which will be moved
  57.      to the front.
  58.  
  59.   3. Write the name of the file and click 'Save' to actually save the
  60.      picture or 'Cancel' to forget all about it.

  63. HOW TO SAVE A WINDOW
  64.   
  65.   1. Activate the window (e.g. by clicking the mouse in it).

  67.   2. Press LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL-'w'
  68.      The window will now appear on the Workbench-screen which will be moved
  69.      to the front.

  71.   3. Write the name of the file and click 'Save' to actually save the
  72.      picture or 'Cancel' to forget all about it.

  75. HOW TO SAVE A RECTANGULARE PORTION OF A SCREEN
  76.   
  77.   1. Activate the screen (e.g. by clicking the mouse in it).
  78.  
  79.   2. Press LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL
  80.      A cross-hair will now appear (always does when pressing LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL).

  82.   3. Use the cross-hair to position the mouse in one corner of the
  83.      rectangulare portion you want to save.

  85.   4. When the mouse is in place press the left-moue-button (LMB) and hold
  86.      it down (don't release LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL). The cross-hair is now replaced
  87.      by a rubber-band (Yes, just like re-sizing windows).

  89.   5. Now move the the mouse until you have framed the
  90.      area you want to save.
  91.  
  92.   6. Release the LMB
  93.      The window will now appear on the Workbench-screen which will be moved
  94.      to the front.
  95.  
  96.   7. Write the name of the file and click 'Save' to actually save the
  97.      picture or 'Cancel' to forget all about it.

  100. WHAT IF I HAVE STARTED TO STRETCH THE RUBBER-BAND
  101. AND DISCOVER THAT THE STARTING-POINT WAS INCORRECTLY PLACED ??

  103.     Just release LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL BEFORE releasing the LMB. This will
  104.   erase the rubber-band (or the cross-hair) and you can start
  105.   over.

  107. ONE MORE WAY TO END PICSAVER AND REMOVE IT FROM MEMORY

  109.   1. Press LALT-LSHIFT-CTRL-ESC (Thats it)

  112. HOW DOES PICSAVER WORK ?
  113.  
  114.     PicSaver works by installing a input-handler at priority 51. This
  115.   handler then signals the program (8 different signals actually) which
  116.   then takes action.

  119. PROBLEMS !!!!!
  120.  
  121.     If the picture you save is less than 16 pixels wide, then some 
  122.   programs won't load and display it correctly. Among these are PPMore
  123.   and DiskMaster 1.0. Deluxe Paint on the other hand does not complain.
  124.   Who's fault is it, mine or theirs ??
